Rihanna’s “We Found Love” single from her new album Talk that Talk just hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. After the dynamo album Loud last year, which spawned three #1 singles, this latest hit gives Rihanna her 13th chart topper–an incredible accomplishment that puts her ahead of Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder, who maxed out at 10.
This latest #1 also ties Rihanna with Whitney Houston and puts her within striking distance of Madonna and the Supremes, both of whom have 12. And with Ri Ri only being 23, the question is not if she will surpass these two, but when.
After that day only Michael Jackson (13 #1′s), Elvis Presley (17), Mariah Carey (18) and the Beatles (20) will be left to knock off. Now Rihanna knows how her boss Jay-Z feels now that he has more #1 albums than anyone but the Beatles.
This isn’t the first time this year that Rihanna has made Billboard history. When “We Found Love” jumped from #16 to #9 earlier this month, Ri Ri racked up 20 top 10 songs faster than any other solo artist, doing it in only six years and four months. That beat a record previously set by Madonna, who accomplished the feat in six years and nine months.
With a brand new album on the way and her popularity at an all time high, it is not absurd to think that very quickly now Rihanna will overtake even the Beatles in #1 hits. Good luck Ri Ri.
